Dachshund

Dachshunds are bold, curious dogs originally bred in Germany over 300 years ago to hunt badgers, with their distinctive long bodies and short legs designed for burrowing into underground dens. These small but fearless dogs come in two sizes and three coat varieties, each with slightly different grooming needs. Dachshunds are surprisingly stubborn and independent despite their small size, requiring patient, consistent training from owners who understand their determined nature. They're loyal and affectionate with their families but can be wary of strangers, making early socialization important. Their elongated spines make them prone to intervertebral disc disease, so preventing jumping and maintaining healthy weight are essential. These spirited dogs are excellent watchdogs with a surprisingly deep bark for their size. They adapt well to apartment living but need daily walks to prevent obesity. Their playful, mischievous personalities make them entertaining companions for devoted owners.
